Boniface Sagini shares his story during his formative years. Born in Kisii, a county in western Kenya, he was a bright kid. He started his primary school education at age four, that is not a common thing. He was a sharp student. With the encouragement from teachers and his academic excellence, the future seemed bright and full of hope. Unfortunate for him, it wasn’t smooth all through. Life doesn’t always come out as planned.
He started writing while in high school. He kept a memoir. The author talks about life from different angles. He shares his life’s experiences. The good side he’s enjoyed, the bad and ugly, and sad memories. He explains the different perspectives one can view the world from. He tells of his lowest moments, and highlights of his life. Encouraging.
He uses real life examples that happened in the past to share the many lessons he has learnt. Apart from the lessons, this also refreshes our memories, as we are taken back in time. His use of popular quotes by great individuals in history is commendable. With this, we are taken through past events, which if we encounter in future, we’ll know how to handle the situations. And no, the aching and misfortunes we experience in life are not always bad. Some are blessings in disguise.
“The world may stink, life may be full of struggle but there are phenomenal people who are overcoming its woes. In the face of tragedy and unpromising circumstance, there are people who are smiling through it all. These are such that embrace a powerful outlook on life. They live life cheerfully. They have mastered the art of living. They have learnt to meander their way through both thrills and chills.” This is the beauty of life
On death, with a real life example, he explains how being closer to death can make one appreciate every day on earth. Cherish every moment you spend with your loved one. for tomorrow is uncertain.
On success, he tells us why pain is vital. Pain and suffering, whichever level they thy are, are part of success. No one has it all smooth. Don’t quit. Even when the last star seems to stop shining, don’t give up. There’s always something good ahead.
Embracing our differences, and the need to respect and understand people from different backgrounds. Life’s challenges. Do we know how to take them? How do we appreciate the woes that are thrown at us in this world?
Other subjects he talks of include depression and suicide. Yes, this is common, yet people are shy of coming forward to talk about it. Spotting and fixing problems. Do our online personas reflect our true selves. Incredible people do incredible things. Achievements don’t come easy. You have to put in a lot of work.
How else to end the year than with an inspiring and uplifting book? I must admit 2016, hasn’t been the best year for most of us. I’m pleased that we have literature out there; this type of literature that not only strengthens but boosts one’s confidence in life. I like the fact that the author is a young adult. For someone who just hit his 20s, he did some great job with the book.
